State University System of Florida Consortium on Homeland
Security
The eleven universities in the State University System of
Florida (SUS-FL) bring comprehensive and diverse fields of
research to Florida. Together, these universities represent a base
of talent with a history of outstanding programs, partnerships,
and cooperation.
Realizing Homeland Security Technology needs, the SUS-FL
leadership formed the State University System of Florida
Consortium on Homeland Security to enhance cooperation and better
focus R&D efforts. Consortium members and associates cooperate to
form project partnerships in the pursuit of technology development
strategies that meet Florida's and U.S. homeland security
requirements.
Consortium Goals:
- Align and actively pursue collaborations that utilize the
collective strengths of consortium members and associates to
acquire homeland security research funding and advance and
deploy technologies needed by the U.S. and/or the State of
Florida.
- Establish collaborations with companies in the State of
Florida , and where appropriate in other locations where
industry partners are required to take homeland security
research to prototype and product.
Florida universities have an outstanding track record of
effective cooperation and partnership among the universities as
well as with industry, and of rapid and effective technology
transfer from R&D to product through licensing and new company
startups. The infrastructure for rapid technology development,
commercialization, and deployment is thus in place and functioning
well. Further, significant DoD work is ongoing at SUS-FL
universities, which will enable co-application and leveraging of
funds for DoD-to-HS applications.
Florida already has several well-established major centers that
can address specific homeland security technology, application,
and deployment needs.
The State University System of Florida Consortium on Homeland
Security is recognized by the State of Florida and integrated into
the State Working Group for Domestic Preparedness. |
